The School in the Community
Close links
The school prides itself on its close links with the village church and community. As a Church of England (Controlled) School we maintain close links with the church community, using All Saints Church as a resource for teaching and for holding our school’s Harvest, Christmas and Easter celebration services, culminating in the leavers’ service at the end of the year. Many parents, families and members of the village community join us on these occasions. Pupils from Year 6 assist at the weekly Luncheon Club for pensioners living in the village and the school has participated in the East Meon May Fair and the Village Variety Show. We have a regular page in the Parish Magazine to update the community on the school’s activities.

The school has become involved in a new village initiative ‘Greening East Meon’ (photo on right). We are to be the venue for the community launch and the children have been looking at the issues and promoting eco-friendly activities such as walking to school, using compost bins in the school garden and switching off lights etc.

Local residents are supportive of the school and many become involved by coming into the school and helping with extra-curricular clubs or reading. Our pre-school/community room is used as a weekly outreach centre to support parents and families. Our PTA, Friends of East Meon School (FEMS), is a very active fundraising group and with the help of parents, friends and villagers approximately £4-5,000 is raised annually to support the children's education. This includes the Midsummer Fete>> and the Christmas Fair>> as well as many other regular fundraising events.

Home-School Partnership
We believe that strong links and open communication between parents and staff are essential for each child’s educational progress. Parents are welcome to discuss any matters relating to their child/children. We are pleased for informal contact to be made at the end of the school day. Appointments to meet with staff to discuss your child’s progress are provided each term. A written report is also sent in the summer term. As your child progresses through the school teachers will suggest activities to support your child’s learning. Please encourage them to undertake these. We welcome comments through our Home-School Link book for each child.

Educational Visits and Visitors
We believe that a child’s understanding can be considerably enhanced through first-hand experience. We plan visits to support children’s learning throughout their time in school. This ranges fromnumerous walks into the immediateenvironment surrounding the school, to a week’s residential visit. Day visits by coach are an important feature in providing opportunities for children. These are carefully planned into the learning programme for each class.

We also maximise opportunities for children to enrich their cultural experience through visits to theatres, galleries and attending concerts. Professional authors, actors and artists visit the school proving inspirational in the motivation of the children which develops their learning and understanding.
