Curriculum The curriculum provided for all children at East Meon CE Primary School is broad and balanced incorporating the National Curriculum and Religious Education. We offer the same experiences for all pupils ensuring equality of opportunity regardless of gender, race or ability. The full national curriculum is taught to each child with inspiring teachers adopting a creative approach to enable children to enjoy and achieve in their learning. The school emphasises the importance of safety, well-being and a healthy life-style in all aspects of learning, extra activities and off-site visits. There is extended provision offered by a variety of after-school clubs which are well attended and enthusiastically supported by pupils. Pupils are offered the opportunity to learn the descant and treble recorder, violin and guitar.

Special Educational Needs At East Meon CE Primary we believe all children are special, as all are valued and nurtured equally. We aim to deliver an education that enables every child to fulfil their unique learning potential. A minority of children have greater difficulty in learning than others of the same age. These children are identified and registered as having Special Educational Needs (SEN). The school aims to ensure that children with special educational needs are identified early, assessed and provided for, enabling full access to all elements of the curriculum.

The children are supported in the classroom by the teacher and may receive additional support from the Learning Support Assistant (LSA) either individually or in small groups. Children with identified special needs will have targets detailed in their Individual Educational Plan (IEP), with finely graded steps to ensure they experience success. A child with a Statement will be supported as recommended by that Statement. The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), currently the Headteacher, liaises with the staff, parents and other appropriate professionals to ensure a positive and supportive partnership..... The school is distinguished by its individual focus on each child and the very personal approach provided. Every member of staff takes on a pastoral role to care for all children within the school family. There is an agreed set of six school rules which we put in place with full support of the children. These rules are supported by a positive behaviour policy. Staff and governors are developing links with support groups for children who may have emotional difficulties.

Pre-School There is an pre-school on the school site. The Village Pre-school opened at the school in 2005 and is registered to care for 22 children. They achieved a good Ofsted in February 2006. Having attended the on-site pre-school, the integration of children into the school is an easy transition. |
