The Millennium Embroidery is now complete. Started in 1999, it has been created by a number of villagers and is soon to be housed in the North Transept of All Saints Church. An oak frame is being created by Steve Lamont (next column) and will be invested at All Saints on Sunday November 2nd. Meet Steve Lamont, furniture maker and creator of the Remembrance Bookcase at All Saints Church. Steve Lamont was born in Maryland USA and went to school in California, where he studied English at Berkeley, San Francisco. He was a pilot in Vietnam and when he left the USAF he flew private jets for AT&T. They grace the cover of every edition of Meon Matters, the best photographs on this website are by Chris and his work is on permanent display at Ye Olde George Inn. Chris is well known in the village not only for his beautiful photographs but also as a member of our very successful cricket team. Steve Weeks is the latest in a long line of blacksmiths to have occupied the Forge at the corner of Frogmore Lane and East Meon High street
Steve was a dockyard apprentice in the Navy before he met Tony and Simon Fry, then the father and son operators of the Forge. He came to work at the Forge and now owns the business, which specialises in gates, railings, fireplaces and other large-scale products. At present, there is concern over the decision of the Forge's owners, Peterfield Museum, to sell the premises...... More>> |
