In the History section we provide a short history of East Meon and a number of other accounts of village history, much of it prompted by queries from visitors or from overseas. East Meon was chosen as ‘The Domesday Village’ in 1986, the 900th anniversary of the Domesday Book. A model was displayed in Winchester's Great Hall that year, depicting the village as it was then – it can still be seen alongside the famous tapestry at Bayeux in Normandy.... Three forms of walk are available to visitors to East Meon. Longer and shorter walks in the countryside around the village are described in detail in two booklets written by villagers and are obtainable at East Meon Stores.
Denys Ryder here describes a short walk of about half a mile which takes you through the centre of the village, past the sites of four pubs (two of which no longer exist), a new vineyard ..... More>> c | The village is served by the East Meosn Stores & Post Office and by two pub, The George (above) and the Izaak Walton. There are bed and breakfast establishments and a hotel in the next village, Langrish House. On summer weekends and bank holidays there is a farmhouse tearoom.

The Sustainability Centre is situated in the parish of East Meon on top of the beautiful South Downs. The Centre has many educational courses for adults, events for children and Wetherdown Hostel comfortable place to stay called .
The aim of the Centre is to 'demonstrate, develop and promote, knowledge, skills, technologies and lifestyles that improve people's quality of life without damaging the environment .....Link >> |
