Winter wonderland
East Hampshire was hit by a blizzard on January 6th; some villagers were forced to abandon their cars on the A3 after a jack-knifed lorry blocked both carriageways - some slept on the floor of the Premier Inn in Petersfield, others found friends with whom to stay, others were ferried by neighbours with 4x4s. East Meon Stores was in danger of running out of provisions; an emergency journey in Marc Atkinson’s 4x4 secured some emergency supplies but supplies were running low at the wholesalers as well. The George was closed all day Wednesday and Thursday.
By the weekend, children were out in force and enjoyed the kind of snow most of them had not seen in their lifetime. Richard Gaisford took photographs on Park Hill (RG in brackets). Laura Redpath was also out on Saturday with her camera (LR)
Further down the page are photographs taken in the village on Thursday 7th which show that no roads had been cleared; the village was largely isolated.
